We’ve all heard it before – sex with condoms isn’t as good as sex without condoms.
However, a new study by ASHA board member Dr. Debby Herbenick and other researchers from Indiana University’s Center for Sexual Health Promotion shows that condoms’ bad rap might be unwarranted.Last week, “Uncle Poodle” (Lee Thompson) from the TLC show “Here Comes Honey Boo Boo” revealed that he was diagnosed with HIV. By sharing his story, Lee hopes to use his reality TV fame to combat bullying in schools and to advocate safe sex. While it’s refreshing to see a star from a silly show about toddler beauty pageants focus on such a serious (and worthwhile) subject, perhaps one of the most interesting details about Thompson’s revelation is that he decided to press charges against his ex-boyfriend, who infected him.
Cervical Health Awareness Month is observed in January of each year. Formerly known as Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, the name was updated a few years ago to recognize women diagnosed with non-cancerous cervical diseases that still require follow-up and, in some cases, treatment.
