Americans of every age, race, religious and cultural
background, and socioeconomic status are affected by sexually transmitted infections
(STIs). There are over 15 million new cases of STIs every year in the United
States.
As journalists, you strive to provide the latest, most accurate information
about STIs to your readers, listeners, viewers and visitors.
The American Social Health Association
(ASHA), founded in 1914, is the only national nonprofit dedicated exclusively
to stopping STIs and their harmful consequences to individuals, families
and communities. In an effort to fulfill its mission, ASHA reaches the public
using a variety of tools: hotlines, media campaigns, printed materials, community-based
projects, support groups, research and advocacy efforts. ASHA provides up-to-date,
factual information to more than 5,000 people every day
We believe strongly that journalists play an important role in helping ASHA
educate the public about STIs. By contacting ASHA, you can get background information
on STIs or reach a content expert. We also have a network of people with STIs,
and we will work with you to identify potential interviewees.
