Thanks for joining our message boards. The emotional and relationship aspects of HPV diagnosis are over overlooked, but we know for many these are the hardest parts of all to cope with. It's important to "normalize" HPV infection - it is NOT a reflection on you or your character. Genital HPV is a common infection, so much so that MOST sexually active people are estimated to have it at some point (although the majority never know!). Having genital HPV, increasingly, is part of being a normal sexually active individual and over time, the immune system seems able to suppress the virus in most cases (but women still need regular Pap tests).
