I recently had cryotherapy for abnormal cervical cell changes. I know there is supposed to be watery discharge for a while afterwards but I was hoping anyone else might be able to share their experience. It's hard to judge what is normal without any other perspective. How long did it last? How long was it blood-tinged? Was there odor that WASN'T fishy? Any insights into normality would be appreciated. :?

If it's been longer than a week and you are still having discharge you should return to your gyn to be tested for infections.

It is not uncommon for there to be a vaginal discharge after treatment, but infection following this therapy is uncommon. The discharge often lasts for several weeks. It can be watery, sometimes with a pink tinge, and it's not unusual for the discharge to have an odor (but not always).

It is typically recommended not to place anything in the vagina for several weeks following cryotherapy. A follow-up Pap smear is often done approximately four to six months after the procedure. However, we encourage you to speak with your health care provider for specific guidance with these issues.

Hope this helps,
Fredo
