After detecting several "skin tags" near my anus, I did some web searching and found they are called fibroepithelial polyps. There were many discussions on different sites about how these are common, benign growths that can be removed, and there was discussion of how in some people they can be related to Crohn's disease.

Went to the doc, and he confirmed that they were simple skin tags and easy to get rid of and nothing to worry about. I mentioned HPV and he said that they could also be symptomatic of that. I also detected one zit-like wart in my public hairs, and as a result he casually mentioned that I could likely have HPV.

Question; are skin tags near the rectum a form of genital wart from HPV?

sometimes a skin tag is just a skin tag. If your regular doctor isn't able to help you out with this - go see a dermatologist. They can remove them possibly for you and send them off for a biopsy at the same time to determine if they are hpv.
