Dear Asha Staff and Members,

If you could please answer this question, I am confused. Does the body immune system clear the virus itself or just the infection? I heard that the virus always stays in the body, but the body immune system can clear the infection which is what causes the HPV symptoms. I also heard that in 90% of the cases that this happens and usually it takes up to 2 years.

Again the question is does the body immune system clear the virus or just the infection.

Thank You,

Shegi

Heya Shegi:

I think I answered most of these questions that you have in your other threads (go ahead and check 'em) but just to reiterate: This is horribly debated for if the body actually removes the virus. Some say that it just gets suppressed, others say that the body actually rids itself of the virus.

Whatever the case is, generally the body does stomp down on the virus in 2, maybe 3 years to the point that you don't notice it causing issues anymore.

There is no definitive answer yet on what happens to the virus; it's still (in my opinion) pretty poorly understood. It's gaining increasing attention though, so maybe some time there will be a consensus in the medical community as to what happens with HPV.
