My doctor said my pap smear showed I am HPV positive but my pap smear was normal. As far as I can understand from what I have read is that this means I am more likely to have the low risk type. Is the low risk type more likely to include warts? If I don't have warts now should I be looking for them?

My husband just got laid off and I don't have insurance. My doctor said I should follow up with an ob/gyn but I am waiting to get insurance. Is there anything I should be doing differently in the meantime???

You should call your doctor's office and find out if your HPV test resulted in a diagnosis of high-risk HPV or low-risk HPV. The test will tell you which. High-risk is the type that causes abnormal pap results and possibly eventually cervical cancer. Low-risk is what causes warts, but no cervical cancer.

However, it is very possible to have high-risk HPV and still have a normal pap as the virus just hasn't effected the cells yet to the point of reading as abnormal on the pap test.
