ok heres a little of my story, i will try to make it short!! 2 yrs ago i found out i was high risk hpv positive,2 abnormal paps,one "leep" abnormal cells high in my cervix, well i am 43 years old and still as of today i am hpv positive,i go july 7 for a full complete hysterectomy, i have fibroids as well but aren't causing me any problems, but everything my obgyn can take out, she's taking ..i dont wanna be back on that operating table anytime soon, my question is though how much i am reading about abnormal paps after a hysto....its where the pap can read abnormal in your vagina walls,can you believe this???? so after my surgery i dont have to worry about cervical cancer but i still have to worry about vagina cancer because of this stupid thing called HPV...i hate this will there ever be an end??i will get rid of all my inside female parts but still theres a chance i will get an abnormal pap cuz of hpv in the vagina area...when will this ever end people..i am soooooo freakin frustrated!! i have a 7 yr old , and i thought having the hysto will clear this mess and i will be around to raise her,now i have to deal with the vagina area..i thought once and for all i was nipping this in the bud!
and if anyone out there has any calm comments about a hysto plz lemme know i am freakin scared to death,,thanks.!

Hi there and good to hear from you again. Pap tests are typically done following hysterectomy if the procedure was done for either cervical pre-cancers or cancers. It is essentially, as you mention, at that point a means of checking for vaginal cancer. There is seldom much risk for vaginal cancers, as that is a very, very rare disease, detected even less often than cervical cancer.

I really wish you'd get a second opinion on this. A hysterectomy is major surgery after all.
If you completely trust your dr and feel this is right for you, then its the best choice.
