Hello again IzzyBelle!
You have been doing some research, I can tell. Yes, there are studies underway with a version of the currently approved HPV vaccine to see if it will have value in treating existing cases of genital warts. You're correct in that this research is still early, being launched just in 2006, and we have not heard an estimated time frame as to when results will be in. We'll keep a watch for this.
The HPV vaccine licensed in June 2006 is designed and approved to prevent infection with the HPV types most often found in cervical and vulvar precancers, as well as those (different) types also found in the vast majority of cases of anogenital warts. The current vaccine is neither designed nor approved to treat existing cases of HPV-related lesions.
Best, Fredo
