Hi dansker,
Thanks for posting. LSIL is a Pap test reading that indicates cell changes that often turn out to be mild or moderate in nature and, especially in women your daughter's age, will often resolve on their own.
It is not a specific diagnosis of HPV but, here again, especially in younger women most often turns out to be HPV-related. LSIL can indeed be caused by low-risk HPV types; HSV would not be a common cause of LSIL Pap results.
HPV in younger women is usually cleared naturally by the immune system and is, fortunately, seldom dangerous. The important thing is for her to go back for follow up exams. Women under age 20 with LSIL Paps often return for follow-up Paps in 12 months, but sometimes health care providers like to be cautious and refer to colposcopy. Ask her provider if you have questions about this.
I hope this helps. Let us know if you have anything else to discuss.
Best, Fredo
