My general practice doctor has prescribed Aldera for internal (vaginal) warts. When I picked up the medication, I saw that it shouldn't be used inside the vagina. Everything I've read on the internet, including Aldera's Web site, says the same thing.

Do you have any information about this? I'm not going to put it into my vagina unless a GYN, with experience in treating this, tells me it's OK. I've asked for a referral, but no news, yet, about when the referral might go through.

Aldara hasn't been evaluated for warts inside the vagina, it's true, so using it in that manner is something of an unknown. The cream is approved for use with external genital warts, including warts at the vaginal opening.

Some health care providers prescribe products for "off label" use, so just make sure you're clear on exactly how they want you to use Aldara, how much to apply, how often, and so on. Ask them what to expect, and what type of reaction might indicate you should discontinue use and give them a call.
