My elder brother-in-law just got diagnosed with Herpes. I'm away and haven't seen the symptoms. Hence not sure what type, but from what he narrates seem to be like those for genital herpes.

My husband, younger brother of the infected, lives with them in their home [until he can join me in US] and I wanted to learn whether he is at any risk of contracting the infection - while the blisters are active or even when not.

I tried looking at websites for an anser to this but not found one yet. Anyone on the board who may be able to guide?

I have a trip coming up soon... Do I need to be cautious about anything? I guess what I'm trying to ask is what are the chances of contracting the virus when there is no sexual contact with the infected and if there are any precautions me or my husband need to take.

Thanks,

Genital herpes is transmitted thru direct skin on skin contact with the genital area. Unless you are having sex with someone their genital herpes is of absolutely no risk whatsoever.

You and your family members have absolutely nothing to worry about.
