I was diagnosed with HSV2 about a year ago. I have been on Valtrex 500mg once daily since them. I have had unprotected sex with someone a few times and was wondering the chance that she could have contracted herpes? I have not had any outbreaks since I was diagnosed last year.

Have you talked to her about your herpes? has she been tested to know her own status?

daily suppressive therapy with valtrex has been shown to reduce the risk of transmission by about 50%. for a hsv2+ male involved with a hsv2- female that equals a risk of about 4-5% each YEAR. So the risk of transmitting is always low but not impossible.

She went to her doctor and tested negative but then she said she donated blood and they called her up and said the tested + for HSV. So right now I am not sure. She was going to make another appointment with her doctor.

They don't test for herpes when you donate blood.

How did her doctor test her for herpes?
