I'm a female recently diagnosed with HSV2 through quest labs. From what I've read on here my outbreaks were minor, two within 7 weeks of the initial one. The last outbreak was 4 weeks ago. I've been on Valtrex daily for three weeks now. But, my question is the skin on my labia still feels dry, and gets sore even from gentle rubbing with plently of lubrication. Can this still be the shedding? We've been using condoms. Does it just take time for the labia to completely heal?

Great questions. Let me explain about viral shedding. The word "shedding" can be misleading. It means that the virus has quietly come to the surface of your skin, should cause NO SYMPTOMS, but you can infect your partner during the time of shedding.

"Shedding" should have nothing to do with the dryness you're feeling. You may want to consult with your doctor as it could be things other than the effects of herpes. And yes, it's also possible you're still experiencing some tenderness from the outbreak.

If it doesn't go away, let your doc know, Okay?
