I just found out I have HSV-1 genitally (on my buttocks near the top) and I am currently having an OB (for about a week now). My husband has oral HSV-1 (no tests but he's had infrequent cold sores). I was also told iI was negative for HSV-2. How safe is it for us to have unprotected sex right now while I'm having the OB? I took Valtrex for 3 days last week when I first noticed it. I haven't had an OB for 15 years and then all of a sudden, I did. I read that it's uncommon to pass it to a partner that already has the virus especially since we both have HSV-1. I have been reluctant to have sex until I knew for sure what type I had. I also read that I would shed the virus much less because HSV-1 isn't common below the belt.

Any information would be so helpful!! I have read so much on these boards and I am so glad I found it!!
