So I have posted on here before.... but a quick updated is that in Jan. this year I started getting really bad outbreaks. I went to 2 doctors in Mexico, one visually diagnosed me and the other did a culture-type thing where he looked at cells from my lip under a microscope while I was there. Both said it was HSV-1. However, I have had at least 2-3 outbreaks a month for over 6 months now...def NOT normal herpes activity.

When I was back in the states I saw another doctor, he prescribed me 2 acyclovir 800 mg a day and had me get blood work. Well, the medicine has not seemed to help, and I finally had to call for my test results because they failed to email them, like they said they would.

They told me they came back normal, and that I don't have anything... SO my question is... what are the chances this test is WRONG, and if you think the test is probably accurate, WTF do I have?

Even the best blood tests still miss 1 out of every 10 hsv1 infections. at this point I"d stop the acyclovir and the next time you get symptoms, see your provider within 48 hours for a lesion culture.

Betsy,

Do you know the statistics on blood tests missing HSV-2?

it depends on the test but most are 92-98% accurate at detecting hsv2.
