I've had cold sores since i was very small, say 5 and thank god they recurr less often and less severely now that im 43. I've been living with them all my life, so long I forget about them other than dealing with them when they happen and managing my triggers - without really thinking about it

I'm dating someone new, who has had cold sores but doesn't have them now, who feels that since they've been exposed there's no reason to avoid kissing when I have a rare out break (like now, lol). After doing a bit of web research it seems likely that this is correct but i'm unsure - i don't want to do any harm..
from the research i did it seems I don't have oral hsv2 since that apparently doesn't recurr although they could have had that, which means my hsv1 could infect them and the first infection is nasty.. not something i want to put my new love through...
