My Question is:
In my case what are the chance of me spreading the virus by giving or receiving oral sex?

first you need to confirm your status with more testing.

We will assume you really do have hsv1 as most adults do. You can transmit that thru performing oral sex. talk to your partner about their status and if they are hsv1 -, consider using barrier protection when performing oral sex.

If you really do have hsv2 too, talk to your partner about that too. You can transmit hsv2 to the oral area thru oral sex but the risk overall is low. Being on suppressive therapy lowers the risk even more. Barrier protection would make it almost impossible on top of suppressive therapy.

So If you are hsv1 genital positive you can pass it through oral sex? or just if you have a cold sore? It is safe to receive oral sex if you aren't having an outbreak? Alot of questions but gotta know whats safe ya kno

If you know you have hsv1 genitally, no easy ( or cheap ) way to know if you also contracted it orally or not. The few studies we do have on this only looked at the appearance of obvious cold sores and showed that anywhere from 1/4 - 2/3's of folks who contracted hsv1 genitally also had it orally. I always recommend being honest with a partner - you know you have it genitally but you aren't sure about orally. If your partner is hsv1 negative, discuss together if protected oral sex is something you want to practice or not.
