Hello Betsy,

Today I got appointment with the Doctor (someone cancelled the appt) and found the bumps was due to "MOLLUSCUM". He removed it manually and asked me to come during month end to repeat the procedure for new bumps that may appear. He did not prescribed any medicines for it. He told me that it may take sometime to get rid of this viral infection.

Are there any over the counter medicines for treating this ? I am worried because this is coming for the last six months and I do not want to go to Doctor everymonth to remove it manaully.

For Hsv1 infection, he asked me to consult another Doctor. I have not got cold sores so far. I restrained myself since Nov 2008. Do I need to see another doctor for Hsv1 ?

Thank you very much for your time.

there's some evidence that cimetidine works for 1/3 of the folks who take it for molluscum. you have to take it 800mg 3 times/day for 3 months. it's available otc and as a cheap generic/store brand.

Imiquimod is available by prescription and can be applied for several months to help too.

Thanks Betsy.

For HSV1, do I need consult the doctor now or wait for cold sores to appear? My last exposure was during Nov 2008 and so far I have not seen cold sores on my genitial or face area.

there doesn't seem to be the false positive issues with the hsv1 igg tests that there are with hsv2. I'd believe your results.

Hello Betsy,

Sorry, my question was not clear. My doubt was whether to start treatment for HSV1 now like taking oral medications daily or wait till cold sores appear ?

no reason to treat your hsv1 at this point.
