Have you ever read the free herpes handbook at www.westoverheights.com? it's a terrific resource. if you don't mind spending a couple of bucks, terri warren's book "the good news about the bad news" is well worth the $15 on amazon to buy it.

1.What is meant by the term shedding?

shedding is when the virus is active. it occurs with obvious lesions as well as periodically in between obs.

2. How likely is it for another person to come in contact and catch the virus from a person that is shedding?

in your situation, your wife is 97-98% likely each year NOT to contract hsv2 from you since you use condoms, avoid sex during obvious lesions and you are also on daily suppressive therapy with valtrex.

3. What are the signs or symptoms I will notice prior to or during the shedding process.

you might not notice any symptoms of shedding. some folks get a tell tale tingle or itch before an obvious recurrence, some don't.

4. Does the Valtrex medication reduce the chances of shedding?

yes it does. it reduces shedding by 80% on average.
