hello,

i wanted to know how accurate is a IGM and IGG test at 6 week post exposure? i was negative for both hsv-1 & 2, but i have read that i should wait 3 months. i don't want to go start kissing and/or having sex if there is a possibility of having it. as i mentioned, i thought i had a cold sore. if it was a true cold sore, the test should have picked it up correct? there wasn't too much information of the effectiveness of the blood test. my doctor probably won't allow me to do another test in 6 weeks because he believes it is nothing. can you please give me some guidance? oh and what are the chances of false negatives at 6 weeks post exposure? thanks.

even the best blood tests still miss 1 out of every 10 hsv1 infections. the odds of 2 tests missing the infection are lower. At this point nothing to do but if you get a return of symptoms be seen and get lesion cultures done or repeat your blood test at some point.
