For those who have HSV this is probably the most puzzling question out there. I was diagnosed 6 months ago and with everyone else, don't want to spread HSV.

What has been people's thoughts with asymptomatic shedding?

I am on daily Valtrex and have not had an outbreak (per se) for the last 2-3 months. I had about 5 outbreaks since I acquired it and each one was about 5-6 very, very small blisters that I experienced zero pain and no prodrome feelings (tingling, itch, etc) and would last about a week.

However, two weeks ago I missed a day or so of Valtrex. I then saw a very small bump on my penis and if I wasn't looking diligently, I don't think I would have noticed it (not sure if there is a coorelation or not). I was able to pop it and a little bit clear fluid came out, I was assuming this was a HSV blister. Very tiny, tiny, pinhead size.

Most speculate that one would have some sort of prodrome before/during asymptomatic shedding, but since I don't have those sensations it is hard to understand when I could possibly be shedding. The virus has to make its way to the surface of your sking to transmit, and the only way it can get there is via your nerve-endings.

My thoughts are that this is how it would get spread in a lot of cases. People have such tiny bumps/blisters that they don't notice them and have sex which causes the tiny blister to break and bang, transmission. Especially for women who can't easily inspect themselves as easily as guys can.

Seriously, if I wasn't inspecting myself and had un-protected sex (which I won't now) that night or next day, it would probably have been a 100% transmission rate.
