Hi! I'm new here. I have herpes and my partner does not.

Last weekend my partner and I had unprotected sex twice. And the next afternoon I noticed a small outbreak that I had not notice the day before. I had no signs ahead of time that I was about to have an outbreak like I have in the past. I take daily Valtrex. What are the percentage chances of him catching herpes? And how long until we would know.

If your partner is going to develop obvious signs of infection, they will occur within 2-20 days after the incident.

Only time will tell if your partner contracted hsv2 from you. If no symptoms develop but your partner wants to check their status ,they have to wait at least 3 months post encounter to get a type specific herpes igg blood test done.

Thanks for the information. I guess I just feel like I'm waiting for the other shoe to drop... it's been 9 days now and my partner has had no symptoms yet. I can't sleep or eat of concentrate worried that any minute he's going to call and tell me he has an OB and the guilt is killing me. I know its not a exact science but I just wish someone could tell me how many days it usually takes for the first sign of an OB.

Also, how much taking daily Valtrex reduce my chances of spreading the virus?

You taking daily suppressive therapy with valtrex overall reduces the risk of transmitting the virus to a partner by 1/2 but that doesn't take into account when you have obvious lesions.

It is hard when you get the out of the blue recurrence of your herpes We've all been there. most of the time it doesn't result in infection for your partner but only time will tell if it did or not. You already are doing the best you can for your partner - you are taking suppressive therapy and avoiding sex when you have obvious lesions present. we can't control it all 100%
