Hello Betsy - I've posted here before and was wondering if you could help clarify something. I was dating a woman who was HSV2 pos and has been for many years. She takes meds and hasnt had an outbreak in several years. I know you said that there is a 1% chance of contracting HSV from her with condom use and meds. This person wants to eventually have children and that calls for us to not use protection. Shes in her 40's so I"m sure it wont be a one time and prego's...I'm sure it will take a few sessions of trying.

What are the odds of me contracting HSV from her without the use of a condom and her continuing her meds and montioring her outbreaks? I'm looking into the future here and not sure if having a child outweighs the mental issues with me possibly contracting HSV. I've tested negative for 1 and 2.

thanks for all your support.

Your risk only increases to 2%/year without condom use - not a huge difference :)

Definitely she should be seeing a reproductive endocrinologist if she's in her 40's and wanting to start a family.

Best of luck!

a Intrauterine insemination (IUI) procedure does not require unprotected sex  and it's going to be more effective.
