Just diagnosed this week. in shock. Had a colposcopy. the Dr said we'll do nothing for 6 months, there was nothing to biopsy.
Can I have sex in this condition ? I'm 60, female

Hi zoozy,

Thanks for your post. HPV is very common, so much so that 80% of women are estimated to have at least one HPV infection by the time they reach age 50. The thing is, most of them are never aware.

If you have a current partner, it's likely you both share HPV and are probably not at much risk of "ping ponging" it back and forth. If you have a new partner then it's possible they can be infected; while using latex condoms can't 100% guarantee protection, they likely reduce risk for the skin they cover.

Most HPV infections don't lead to cancer, but follow up exams are important. The immune system is often able to clear the virus naturally, but keep up with those exams as a precaution.
