it's thru direct skin on skin contact and not typically from surfaces when it comes to genital hpv infections.

I did read some where if you are immune surpressed. If your towel was accidently switched at the gym IE hanging outside the steam room or shower it is possible. My question how long will H.P.V. live in a damp warm moist area. like your towel or a poriace surface.

The virus is transmitted through dead skin cells that slough off. The risk of getting HPV from towels hasn't been documented and is probably pretty rare, at best. I mean, it probably a good idea not to dry skin that has genital warts and then pass the towel directly to someone else, but even then I wouldn't lose any sleep over it.

Best,
Fredo

So does anyone know how long the virus lives outside of the body. and will warts grow anywhere on the body from hpv. like the thicker skin on cheeks of butt.

Genital warts can appear on genital, anal, and perianal skin, and also on the groin and inner thigh. I don't think it's common to find them elsewhere, such as the skin of the buttocks.

I don't know how long the virus is viable in dead skin cells that slough off (which is how one would encounter it), but inanimate objects probably don't carry very much risk.

Best,
Fredo
