Is there any psychological help for someone with a herpes phobia?

Yes, he is completely freaked out about the possibility of contracting it even after convincing himself that worst case scenario he would have what I have. We had been together for 10 years before I found out I had it. Everything was perfect until then. We have both done extensive research and he has all of the medical facts but still he can not bear the thought of getting it.

I recommend that the 2 of you seek out counseling together for this at this point. When it takes more than a few weeks to adjust to the "idea" of herpes being a part of your relationship in a situation like this, usually it takes outside help. let your partner know how important your relationship is to you - the entire relationship - and that you want to work on it together to keep the relationship strong and growing.

What kind of counseling do you suggest? Marriage counseling? I'm afraid it will be hard to find a good counselor that can help us with this issue since there are so few medical professionals that have the facts. I'm sure there would be even less counselors.

actually you probably don't even need to know anything about herpes to be of help. Odds are this is going a bit deeper than a fear of contracting herpes from you. You already know the facts about transmission and it's not helping him so it's time for more.
