I had a blood test done for HSV-1 and HSV-2. The results show I have HSV-1 antibodies and HSV-2 was negative. I don't have any genital symptoms of herpes nor have I ever had a cold sore. What do these test results mean for me? Am I contagious? Do i have a responsibility to tell sexual partners about it?

most adults do have hsv1 orally but most don't get obvious cold sores to know that they are infected. http://www.ashastd.org/herpes/herpes_le ... herpes.cfm has terrific info on oral herpes for more reading.

should you be talking about hsv1 with partners? yes you should be. you can't make educated decisions until you both know who has what.

any particular reason why you got tested?

betsy
