Is an individual infected with either HSV1 or 2 prohibited from entering professional healthcare as a career ?

If that was the case - there'd really be a healthcare shortage!!! By the time we reach our 40's - the odds are that the vast majority of folks will have either hsv1 and/or hsv2. It isn't an issue in healthcare since herpes is transmitted thru direct skin on skin contact and not thru the air ( and not thru casual routine day to day contact either ). No matter what you might've seen in a movie - we healthcare folks don't often kiss our patients or do the wild thing with them for herpes to be an issue ;)

The same goes for service and military personnel such as the various armed services, firefighters, police officers, etc. (we get that question a lot). Having herpes doesn't impact one's choice of profession.

Thanks,
Mike
