Hi all,

Reading through these messages I see numerous references to Valtrex being used for suppression.

I was diagnosed last week and my doctor put me on acyclovir (Zovirax).

My question is: is Valtrex more effective? Should I ask to be put on that instead? Or is it just common to use \"Valtrex\" like one says \"Kleenex\" to describe any sort of tissue? :)

Any clarification you can provide will be welcomed. Thanks so much! :)

Zovirax is the brand name for acyclovir (generic) Acyclovir is what the liver converts Valtrex into when it is processed in the liver. Valtrex is supposed to be more convenient because you take less pills in a day. But it is also more expensive.

Both are said to be equally effective at treating obs and suppression.

Thanks, Muffin! I couldn't find any definitive answers, so I appreciate that. :)

Neither One!

What Doctors don not tell you is what foods or ingredients to watch out for. Plus there a number of herbs to decrease or even eliminate outbreak if taken daily along with eating healthier.

Sugar, yeast foods like bagels and donuts, carbonated drinks and sweetners over time will increase the number of outbreaks. With 8 years of research and experimenting I know just about what doctors don't tell you.

Herpes attaches your central nervous system so it is important to keep a strong immune system.

If you happen to have an outbreak wash daily with warm water and dab the wound. Drink plenty of water throughout the day. I say drink herbal teas with honey as your sweetner. If you cant drink water. Cranberry juice or pills are great too. This will help keep the kidneys and bladder clean from infection.

Jam....one of the main priorities of this forum is that we only recommend proven and effective treatment for genital herpes. There is no good research that shows that dietary changes makes any differences ( though certainly eating a healthy diet in general is always recommended - most of us are way too heavy on the simple carbs and empty calories that's for sure ). Also the supplements you are recommending in various posts - none of them have any backing for having any effectiveness for herpes.

Please keep this in mind in your posts. Thank you.
