Thanks for the service you guys provide. I've been checking out this board for a while to get some more information on my situation before posting this question and wondering what to do next.
My girlfriend of seven months recently tested positive for HSV 1 & 2. She does not know when she got it, nor has she ever shown symptoms that would indicate infection.
We got this news in early October. As a result, I went to my GP and got a blood test, which also came back positive for HSV 1 & 2.
My girlfriend and I have engaged in oral sex and we always use condoms during intercourse. (Well, except for that one time when I had to see how it felt without a condom, which lasted 5 seconds before I put one on.)
I asked the doctor's assistant, who relayed my results to me by phone, for some more information on my results. She said the results showed that the infection was fairly recent and that my number was 1.56 for both HSV 1 and 2.
As far as my symptoms are concerned, I have none! I do admit to feeling a little more hypersensitive to detecting symptoms though. Must be nerves, I hope.
Unless I'm mistaken, I'm tempted to think this was an IGM test that was performed.
Anyway, I plan to take another test in a couple of weeks, one that provides more definitive results than what I could get in an IGM test.
I guess I just wanted to know if my assumptions were correct and that I should seek another test.
